In recent years, the world has become increasingly interested in these particular genres of artists, those who are independent and free to present their true identities in music. This is simply amazing, as it’s allowing us to optimize the music industry.
Here, we’re talking about what makes local music so special, about the true identity of musicians who don’t sign to major labels but still put on a good show. European countries are nuts about Indie Folk. If you don’t know what it is, just watch some of Douther’s music videos and you’ll get the idea.
In discussing genre, I noticed that the term “folk” was being used quite a bit, and I was curious as to why. Turns out, there is actually a lot of cultural fusion happening right now across many areas and genres. In fact, people are calling this period we are in right now the “Post-Folk Era” — an era where musicians are mixing traditions and creating a new amalgamation of sounds.
Folk, country and rock are the most blended genres, so let’s listen to our playlist which is a good example of what Indie Folk is about.
1) COLT STERK – Changed Her Mind
If you’re looking for a new indie rock band to fall in love with, look no further than COLT STERK.
COLT STERK is the perfect mix of folk, American country, rock and singer-songwriter. They’ve just released one more single, Changed Her Mind and they’re already making waves in the music scene.
The single is a classic rock track with soft vocals that will make you want to take your shoes off and relax. The lyrics are uplifting and beautiful. You’ll be singing along before you know it!
Their music is perfect for a long drive through the desert or a late-night stroll through the city streets. We can’t wait for them to take over the airwaves with this song!
I highly recommend checking out their other songs too—you won’t be disappointed! You can follow the band below and listen to their songs.
2) CHUCKY TRADING CO – Shadows
I’m a huge fan of indie rock, and I think CHUCKY TRADING CO‘s single Shadows is a great example of the kind of music that makes me so passionate about this genre. The band has a classic rock sound with a bit of country and folk thrown in for good measure. It’s a soft rock sound, but it’s still got some bite to it—just enough to keep things interesting!
The lyrics also make this track stand out for me, though. They’re catchy and well-written, with just enough ambiguity to make them interesting without making them feel like they don’t have an actual meaning. It’s clear that these guys took their time writing these lyrics; there’s nothing half-baked about it at all!
I highly recommend checking out this band if you love classic rock but aren’t into the screaming and screaming again kind of stuff that seems to be so popular right now. This is definitely one of my favourite tracks right now—it’s got everything you could want in an indie rock song: great vocals, great instruments, and great lyrics.

3) CRAIG GOULD – Burned
We’re so excited to be introducing you to the incredible artist that is Craig Gould! We just can’t get enough of his indie-folk mix.
The single “Burned” is super catchy and has a great sound. We love how it’s both soft rock with acoustic rock similarities, as well as a lot of country with folk-pop, and soft male vocals. It’s like Billy Ray Cyrus songs all rolled into one song!
And it’s not just us—the band has been getting good reviews across the board—from fans on social media to producers.
If you’re looking for an artist who will give you a totally unique musical experience that’s sure to have you singing along in no time at all, then we highly recommend checking out Craig Gould’s songs below and following the artist on Spotify.
4) ALEX KRAWCZYK – Le Olam
ALEX KRAWCZYK‘s Le Olam is a proper cultural fusion of Americana, country, and indie-folk that we’re crushing on. The album is full of soft rock sounds that are easy to listen to but still manage to pack a punch when it comes to the guitar work and drumming.
The album has a strong female vocalist who brings her own style to the music while still keeping it fresh and original. Her voice is soft and easy to listen to without being boring or bland.
The lyrics are thoughtful but not overly complicated or confusing—you can follow along easily enough even if you aren’t a fan of Folk! The lyrics also deal with some tough topics like loss, heartbreak, and finding yourself after a major change in life direction, such as There Will Be Light.
We love how this album blends many different styles into one cohesive whole—it’s hard not to feel like you’re listening to something new every time you play track number 1 called Full Moon Rising, what a drum show! Hey, Ed Sheran has some competitors here for something like Castle On The Hill, it’s Alex.
We’ll let you decide, we are including all 11 songs in our playlist Indie Folk Mix by PopHits.News, so check out the full album below, enjoy it, and follow the artist on Spotify.
5) LIEDOGS – To Split The Sea In Two
I can’t tell you how many times I’ve listened to the new album by LIEDOGS.
It is called To Split The Sea In Two and it is fantastic. With most of the songs bringing us an impressive Rock, but also a bit of Blues and Folk mashed together, the album has a very good taste, not to mention the vocals.
The album starts off with a song called “Sea Forest”, which is a very cheerful and fun song that will make you want to dance around your room waving your head like a rock star.
The next song that made me stop and listen was “The Keys”, which is a slower song that has a nice beat to it but still has some upbeat moments in it as well.
If we consider the genre, this album shouldn’t be here, but what we’re trying to show you is just what artists are capable of doing when mixing genres and achieving a perfect blend.
This album is perfect for those who like a soft rock with a little bit of edge. It’s mellow but also energetic, with a few slower songs thrown in there as well. You’ll find yourself nodding along as you listen—and maybe even dancing!
If you’re looking for something exciting to listen to while you’re driving, this is definitely worth checking out!
You can now follow the band on Spotify to show your love and listen to the whole album. I guarantee you won’t regret it.
6) WYLDERBEATS – There’s A Light Over Yonder
WYLDERBEATS‘ new album There’s A Light Over Yonder is the perfect album for anyone who’s ever been stuck in a rut. The band, which consists of members Dan Brownrigg, Dave Rhead, Nick Wilson and Paul Roger, has been creating music since its inception in 2015, but this album shows them moving in a new direction.
Their music is inspired by their upbringing in Northwest England and also their experiences in Valencia, Spain—all of which come together to create a sound that feels like it could be from either place. Their influences range from British and American folk music to country to 1960s pop and psychedelia and even French Chanson! The result is an album that feels familiar yet fresh; it brings you back home while also showing you new horizons.
With music being recorded in Skelmersdale and Valencia, the album’s themes and style were influenced by both places.
The band’s latest work explores themes like finding light at the end of the tunnel and getting out of your rut—and they do so with songs like Side Door, Nothing Funny at All, and Travelling Song. Band members Dan Brownrigg (vocals), Dave Rhead (guitar), Nick Wilson (bass), and Paul Roger (drums) are joined by Valencian vocalist Carla Rhead Sales and British percussionist Mike Holcroft.
Stop what you are doing and listen to these guys, really listen to the full album, and follow them on Spotify.
7) PAUL LOREN – Hold On, I’m Comin’
I’m a huge fan of classic rock and alt-country, so I’ve been looking for a band that combines the two. And I found it in PAUL LOREN‘s Hold On, I’m Comin’. This song is just what I’ve been searching for! It has the upbeat energy of classic rock with a country twang that makes me want to dance. The vocals are strong and clear on this track—they’re very expressive without being over-the-top.
This song has a lot of dynamic range: from the instrumental break in the middle (where it sounds like there are three different people playing the guitar at once) to the epic ending with just a guitar and some strong percussion and saxophone altogether. This makes it easy to listen to over and over again without getting bored or tired of it.
I would definitely recommend this track to anyone who loves classic rock or country music!
Don’t forget to follow the artists on Spotify.
8) ANGUS QUINN – Enemies In Love
I’m a huge fan of Angus Quinn’s music. He has a folk sound that’s super pop and romantic, with just enough folk and some effects to make it feel classic, but still modern. His lyrics are super catchy and easy to follow, so you can sing along with them without having to think too much.
The latest single, Enemies In Love is a perfect example of this, It’s got positive lyrics that are enjoyable to listen to. The hook just gets stuck in my head every time I listen to it! It’s so easy listening that I find myself singing along to bits like “Enemies in Love…” without even realizing it.
I also love how his voice sounds like he’s singing directly into my ear and has very “outer space” effects, which makes it dreamy—it feels like he’s talking directly to me through the speakers and also makes me relax!
If you’re looking for an indie artist who can appeal to fans of alt-folk pop, then look no further than Angus Quinn.
Follow the artist on Spotify and listen to his new release below.
9) BAGAÏ – À L’endroit Où Dorment Les Hyènes
I recently discovered a Canadian artist named BAGAÏ. They have a new album out called À L’endroit Où Dorment Les Hyènes and it’s absolutely incredible!
Their full album is a combination of folk, indie soft-rock and a very calm atmosphere.
It’s got a really cool vibe that feels like the perfect soundtrack to the summer. The vocals are smooth, but they’re also really intense at parts which makes for great contrast and keeps things interesting throughout their songs.
They had one song in particular that stood out to me: “Me Fais Pas Croire”. It starts off with just piano and voice and then adds drums later on in the song, which adds an extra layer to it that makes it even more dynamic than it already was before.
Have you ever heard of a track like that in a movie or movie trailer? That is exactly what this track is.
Overall, if you want something different from your typical pop music then this is definitely something worth checking out!

10) JOE SNEVA – 100 Wildflowers
Joe Sneva is a singer-songwriter based in the US who has been releasing music since the early 2004s. He has three albums out so far, and his latest single is called 100 Wildflowers.
The songs are very diverse, but they all have a common thread: they’re written by Joe Sneva. His songwriting style is unique and easy to listen to; it’s not too complicated or too simple, but it’s always catchy. His voice is smooth and pleasant, but not overpowering—he uses it to complement his music rather than stand out on its own.
His last album is an excellent example of cultural fusion: it takes influences from everywhere and blends them together. If you’re looking for an album that will have you humming along in no time, check out the single 100 Wildflowers by JOE SNEVA below and his previous albums on Spotify – I loved Malibu, and you won’t regret listening to it!
