Drew Hunter, Dream Pop For Those Who Miss The 80s

Will Lisil 1 June 2022

Drew Hunter is best known for his distinct and quirky alternative style of pop with dreamy instrumentals, moody lyrics, and soulful vocals that capture the hearts of everyone that has given his music a listen.

If you’re into pop music and miss the 1980s, Drew Hunter needs to be on your musical radar.

A multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Hunter creates music that makes you feel at home with yourself amidst the chaos and despair of everyday life. His latest release, “Dream State”, which is part of our playlist on Spotify, brings this concept to life with acoustic guitar riffs that just warm your heart.

When it comes to pop music, Drew Hunter isn’t your typical fan. The 25-year-old Denver-based songwriter and musician don’t mind the overproduction or auto-tuning of modern pop songs — he simply longs for an era when every track had a hook that could bust your insides with its beautiful blend of lyrics and melody, transforming his own art.

“Growing up isn’t easy, and the trials of life often make us feel very far away from those we love. Sometimes it’s hard to pick yourself up again after having a tough day, but people can be there to help you through it all. I just think that music is an alternative which can also give us some support through meaningful lyrics and warm melodies.”

Drew Hunter

An avid music lover, Drew Hunter began creating his own songs at the age of five using lyrics he wrote with a pencil on a piece of paper placed in front of him. It’s natural talent!

A multi-instrumentalist in his own right, Drew Hunter creates music that makes you feel at home with yourself amidst the chaos and despair of everyday life. His latest release, “Dream State” brings this concept to life with acoustic guitar riffs that just warm your heart.

Hunter brings a fun, Rock/Pop sound to his upcoming music with influences from various artists including Linkin Park, The Weeknd, the music style of Kid Cudi, and even Father John Misty. His music tone has been compared by our producers with artists such as Sir Sly, St. Lucia, alt-J, and Phoebe Bridgers – all musicians that bring a powerful yet mysterious vibe to their music.

At a young age, listening and singing along to pop artists as diverse as Michael Jackson, Prince, and Sia, he quickly learned how to create melodies and harmonies. Soon enough, this passion for music would lead to his performing original music for friends and family as a kid.

Despite listening to a wide variety of musical formats, it was upon first hearing the music of Tears for Fears that Hunter was inspired by songwriter Roland Orzabal’s vocal melodies.

As mentioned, Drew Hunter is a singer-songwriter from the United States, Denver CO, so the musical influences are incredibly rich, and his latest single is no different. It’s available now on Spotify under the title “Dream State.”
